Prince, McFarland Star as 67′s Pound Petes

After a shaky first period that saw 7 goals and 3 lead changes, the Ottawa 67′s settled down and took control en route to a 9-4 victory. The nine goals mark the biggest offensive output of the season, eclipsing the 8 goals the 67′s put up on the Saginaw Spirit on October 1st.  Ironically, one of the newest 67′s, John McFarland was on the wrong end of that one as he was a member of the Spirit until a couple of weeks ago.

McFarland and Shane Prince dominated this game, as the duo combined with centre Mike Cazzolla for a total of 13 points.  Prince had a pair of goals and 4 assists, McFarland had 2G, 2A and Cazzola 2G, 1A.  Cody Ceci, Dalton Smith and Nicholas Foglia added singles.

The 6 point night moved Prince into 6th place in OHL scoring, up from 14th where he began the night.  Tyler Toffoli had 2 assists and moved into sole possession of first place in OHL scoring, 1 point ahead of Tanner Pearson. Ottawa now has 3 of the top 10 scorers and 4 of the top 20, with Sean Monahan 5th and McFarland 20th.

Peterborough goalie Andrew D’Agostini surrendered 4 goals on 9 shots in the first period and was pulled with just under a minute left in the frame.  Michael Nishi, starting in place of Petr Mrazek,  was shaky in the 67′s net in the first, but settled down once the 67′s chased D’Agostini and took the lead for good.  Peterborough outshot Ottawa 34-31.

Ottawa returns home to face the Oshawa Generals on Friday night in another divisional matchup.
